Modern Slavery

At Sero, we believe that everyone deserves the right to live and work in freedom, dignity, and safety. While slavery was legally abolished in the United Kingdom over 200 years ago, the reality is that modern slavery continues to exist, often hidden in plain sight, both globally and here at home.

Modern slavery is a complex and deeply exploitative crime. It includes slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking. It thrives on coercion, deception, and abuse of vulnerability, stripping individuals of their autonomy and subjecting them to inhumane treatment for the benefit of others.

We find the very idea that someone could be forced to work against their will, whether through fear, manipulation, or violence, fundamentally incompatible with our values. At Sero, we are committed to playing our part in ending this injustice.

While the nature of our work in social housing and energy systems means we are at relatively low risk of encountering modern slavery directly, we do not take that for granted. We remain vigilant, informed, and ready to act. If we ever suspect that someone is being exploited, whether in our own operations or through our supply chain, we will not hesitate to respond.

Our commitments are clear:

We treat our team with fairness, respect, and care.
Everyone at Sero is paid fairly, supported in their wellbeing, and empowered to thrive.

We expect the same from our partners and suppliers.
We will not work with any organisation that fails to uphold basic human rights or ethical labour practices.

We believe in transparency and accountability.
We will continue to review our policies, raise awareness, and strengthen our due diligence processes to ensure we are not complicit in any form of modern slavery.

Ending modern slavery requires collective action, across sectors, borders, and systems. At Sero, we are proud to stand on the side of justice, and we will continue to use our voice, our influence, and our work to help build a fairer, safer future for all.
